The United States Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, has convened on Monday a meeting of the members of the Security Council under the "Arria Formula", to discuss the critical and vital moment that takes place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in reference to the preparation of the electoral process that projects to culminate with the elections of December 23, 2018.
Equatorial Guinea has intervened in this direct dialogue through its Permanent Representative, Anatolio Ndong Mba, who has stressed the importance of the United Nations and the International Community continuing to ensure the extinction of the armed groups that are sowing violence in the country. and for the eradication of operations of illegal trafficking of weapons and precious minerals by third countries, since it only encourages confrontations even more.
In turn, the Permanent Representative has emphasized the need to exercise "great pressure, vigilance and sanctions" in order to tackle these actions that not only affect the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but the Central African Subregion, to the Subregion of the Great Lakes, to Africa in general including, of course, the whole world; given the enormous nature of the country, the truth about its natural resources and the great role it plays in the maintenance of ecosystems.
The Republic of Equatorial Guinea concluded its intervention by congratulating MONUSCO for the useful work that it is carrying out in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and calling on all the parties involved in the process for this transition of power to be carried out. in an atmosphere of peace and consensus.
